Your support and feedback from the War of Legends Beta these past few days has been very valuable and much appreciated. We are working with the games’ developer to help them improve the game based upon your feedback. Unfortunately some game issues that have been encountered means that we are currently unable to guarantee the stability of the game worlds and as such we need to change the beta programme.

We have opened five additional game worlds which are restricted to 5,000 players per server.

We will have to reset these servers periodically during the remainder of the beta. Therefore we have disabled the ability for players to purchase further JCredits. Players who have previously purchased JCredits will be refunded and all participants in the Beta programme will be given complimentary JCredits.

We are actively working with the games’ developer to try and help them improve the stability of their game and we are confident that by working together with both the developer and the playing community we will be able to resolve the outstanding issues and open the game to everyone as soon as possible.

The first one I got was probably the Quest cape, since I keep up on the quests. It helps that I have playing long enough that I have been able to do most quests when they first come out.

Then I got the Cooking cape. After that, I went for Fletching. Then I got Defence.

And now, I have my Woodcutting cape.

99 Woodcutting

I've been training Woodcutting lately. I used two methods to get to 99. (I started my run at 92.) I would cut the evil trees, and then chop maples for the time that my logs are sent to the bank for me.

The other way was chopping Eucalyptus trees west of Oo'glog using Sacred Clay hatchets. I find it quicker to chop these than Yew logs, and less people around, do to the Level 69-99 Ogresses nearby. The logs sell quickly for 410 gp on the GE.

I now have my Woodcutting cape!

Stealing Creation

I have the day off, and wanted to play some Stealing Creation. But SC Claymates is not playing Stealing Creation right now. So I tried the normal Stealing Creation game. I managed to get the high score for once. Most people were PKing, and I found a level 5 fishing area all for myself!

I like Stealing Creation, but I have always been lousy at PKing. So, I prefer to just skill in the game. Sometimes, that works out!

I played a few more rounds, and got an even higher score.

I love this mini game!

Clan chat groups are great for playing the mini games. Here are some of the ones that I use.

Evil Tree

Clan Chat: EvilTreeChat. If that is full, use EvilTreeCC.

What for: they look for the evil trees on all of the worlds. If you want help finding the evil trees, they are a good group.

How to use the chat: When reporting a tree, use the format of World/location/type/%left. For example, w66/draynor/yew/100%. When someone reports an evil tree, go to a spirit tree to be sent to the tree.

What not to do: Don't spam the chat, don't make a false report.

Penguin Hunting

Clan Chat: PENGUINS W60. If that is full, use W60_PENGUINS, W60_PENGIES, or W60overflow1. The underscore is a space.

What for: They look for the penguins on World 60.

How to use the chat: First, look on the forum (QFC below) to see the location of the penguins on World 60 only. They change from world to world. Then, join the chat to see actually where the penguins are.

What not to do: Ask about penguins on other worlds than world 60.

Shadowdancer was quit Runescape, and from his movie on youtube, it sounds like this time it is for good.

I logged in yesterday morning to see I had 1 unread message. Cringing in horror as I do every day I see that I have more than 0 unread messages since that God-awful day where I discovered that Mod Laura W muted me for a week because she was bored, I read it. The title was "RuneScape Forums". Oh dear God, what now?

Lo and behold, that piece of garbage named Mod Dave awarded me my final forum strike. And it was for posting:
"The English language falls before your might."

Apparently that qualifies as flaming.

And I thought Jagex had a sense of humor? I guess not all of them.

Fighting Dagannoth Kings Now

Recently, Jagex changed how monsters can move. They now can move diagonally, and of course people complained that they could not fight the Dagannoth Kings using safe spots anymore.

The Dark Bow

Runescape released a new type of bow, the dark bow.

A new bow has made its way to RuneScape from the shadowy dimension of the dark beasts. These dark bows are strange and dangerous weapons, designed to shoot two arrows at a time, even with the most powerful arrows. Its mysterious special attack deals massive damage, which is even more powerful if you use it with dragon arrows.

Dark bows can only be obtained from the dark beasts that lurk along the path to the Light Temple. Although it requires a level 90 Slayer to take on a dark beast, level 60 rangers can use these tradeable dark bows. The dark bow is also the only bow that can fire dragon arrows!

You also now have access to a new cavern where eight more dark beasts lurk, just at the start of the Light Temple path.

Since my slayer level is not high enough, it will be a long time before I get one myself. But, letterbomb05 (97 range) has one. He was nice enough to make this movie showing the special attack with dragon arrows.

Game Improvements

Two of the game improvements released today really make me happy:

First up, we've rebalanced the crossbows to make them a really appealing option for rangers. This means that your crossbow will fire faster and hit harder. We've also made grapples tradeable at every stage in their construction. It was a bit odd having them untradeable as soon as you add a bit of rope. Onyx bolt tips bought from the TzHaar are also cheaper now. With all these adjustments, we feel that the crossbow is a really viable choice for the discerning ranger.

I’ve been working on Slayer and Ranging lately. I want to get my Ranging higher to help when I go with my friends to fight the Dagannoth Kings. To clean up bank space, I’m using the various bolts I have in the bank. So, having the crossbow will fire faster and hit harder is just what I need. Cool!

To save fletchers standing about looking as if they're doing nothing, we've added an animation to stringing bows. On top of this, you'll save quite a few clicks with the new 'String-all' option!

I have given up on stringing bows, since it had too much clicking. With this, it makes it fun again. I have 2k maple bows in the bank to string, so this will have fletching more fun. :)

Hunting Imps

Jagex had added a new mini-game, Impetuous Impulses.

This week we are releasing dragon arrows and darts into the game. Yes, that's right, new dragon weaponry! Getting hold of them will be tricky, though: you will have to find and catch implings in a new Hunter mini-game, Impetuous Impulses. Chihiro has added a rabble of these naughty implings to the world.

Like their imp cousins, they are mischievous and can be found wandering around the oddest places. Implings like to collect things that people want, and if you learn how to hunt them down and capture them you will be able to pick up their loot. Of special interest will be the ultra-rare dragon implings that may be carrying the new dragon arrows and darts. But beware: only the most proficient hunters will be able to catch them.

To find the implings you can visit their home plane, Puro-Puro, by discovering the mysterious crops circles that will transport you there. You'll find many implings there, though most of them will be inexperienced implings who haven't learnt the best items to collect. You'll be able to run around their maze-like home with a butterfly net and try to catch them. They can fly over fences, though, so they may not be as easy to catch as you think.

You'll also find some of the implings wandering lost around the world. If you find a rare one, and are able to catch it, you'll get their loot without having to bother with cross-planar travel and crop circles. So keep your eyes peeled! Even if you can't catch a dragon impling yourself, maybe you can get a friend who can to help...

This is so cool! I have always liked the little imps. I liked the Christmas holiday event a couple of years ago where you could pick up the holiday imps, and shake them, to get their stuff. So, this should be fun, too!

Don’t Buy RuneScape Gold!

As you visit RuneScape fan sites, you will sometimes notice ads for buying RuneScape gold/items for real world money. While this might sound like a good way to get ahead in the game, it is against the rules. Jagex has said that they have reliable ways to trace this now, and will ban people who cheat this way.

But, you might ask, how can they know that you bought RuneScape Gold for real dollars? Well, Jagex will not tell you how they can figure it out. They don’t want the cheaters to know how they do it, in case the cheaters could find a way around it.
Will, being a programmer myself, I can can think of way they might do this to find the cheaters. But first, some background about the problem.

In order to have Runescape gold to sell for real money, you have to get the gold somehow. To do this, companies hire what are called “gold farmers”. These people are paid to play the game, and things to make money in the game: cut trees, fish, etc. They then give the trees or fish to someone to sell to a player for gold. Then the company they work for will sell the gold for real money. For more information on how this works, look at: www.1up.com

So, the following people are involved in selling the gold for real money:

1. The gold farmers.

2. The seller who sells the logs or fish.

3. The transfer person who gives the gold to a normal player.

4. The normal player, who paid real money to get the gold.

First off, let’s assume that Jagex can keep track of a player’s trading. Otherwise, Jagex could not ban anyone for trading in this way.

1. When a person reports a player that is a gold farmer, or is using macro, Jagex could make a note of the gold farmer player name.

2. When the gold farmer trades with the seller, Jagex notes the seller player name.

3. When the seller gives the gold to the transfer person, Jagex notes the seller player name.

4. When the seller trades with the normal player, Jagex notes their name, too.

5. Then, with that information, Jagex could ban the gold farmer player, the seller player, the transfer player, and the normal player. And, if the normal player transfers the gold from account to account, to hide where the gold came from, Jagex could ban all of those players, too.

So, since I can figure out a way that Jagex can do this, I believe them when they say “We have reliable ways to trace this now.” So, don’t buy gold/items for real world money. You will lose your account.

A new skill: Music!

This thread is the ultimate suggestion for adding a "Music" skill to RuneScape. I know several players have been clamouring for this for a long time now, and I have a fairly good idea of how it could be implemented.

First, some real-life history about the "Minstrel":

"A minstrel was a medieval European bard who performed songs whose lyrics told stories about distant places or about (real or imaginary) historical events. Though minstrels created their own tales, often they would memorize and embellish the works of others. Frequently they were retained by royalty and high society. As the courts became more sophisticated, minstrels were eventually replaced at court by the troubadours, and many became wandering minstrels, performing for common townsfolk. In this guise, minstrelsy was still well liked until the middle of the Renaissance, despite a decline beginning in the late 15th century. Minstrelsy fed into later traditions of itinerant entertainers, which continued to be moderately strong into the early 20th century, and which has some continuity down to today's buskers or street musicians."

Given that brief introduction as to what a minstrel was, I hereby propose that the skill be called: - "Minstrelry"
- "Minstrel"
- "Troubador"
- "Bardery"

Now, how will this relate to RuneScape?
Well, there is a single-player computer RPG series from the 1980s called "The Bard's Tale". I remember it well because one of the character classes you could be was a Bard, which was otherwise known as a minstrel/troubader - he/she could play a musical instrument and create a wide variety of different effects for not only him/herself but everyone he/she travelled with.

We already have a Lyre in RuneScape; however its function seems to be limited to being a teleportation device. But more on potential instruments later.

Some of the effects from this RPG series included:

"Song #1 - This tune increases the damage your party will do in combat, by driving them into a berserker rage."

"Song #2 - This song will produce light when exploring, and during combat it will increase the party's chance of hitting a foe with a weapon."

"Song #3 - This song will soothe your savage foes, making them do less damage in combat."

"Song #4 - This is an ancient Elven melody, which will heal the Bard'swounds during traveling, and heal the party's wounds during combat."

"Song #5 - This melody makes the members of your party more dexterous and agile, and thus more difficult to hit."

"Song #6 - This song sets up a partial 'anti-magic' field, which gives party members some increased protection against spell casting."

Some of those effects could easily be adapted to apply to RuneScape, such as playing a tune that, say, doubles hitpoint regeneration rate to all players with Accept Aid turned on and are in a 3 x 3 area of the minstrel/bard/troubador.

Now, as a skill, I feel that it might be set up this way:

Level 1: Can only play 1 song before losing voice/ability; can only play wooden wind instruments.

Level 5: Can play 2 songs before losing voice/ability;

Level 11: Can play 3 songs before losing voice/ability; can play wooden wind and stringed instruments.

Level 20: Can play 4 songs before losing voice/ability; can play wood wind, stringed, and percussion instruments.

Level 26: Can play 5 before losing voice/ability; can play pianos and church organs (playing a church organ regenerates prayer points for all in 5 * 5 area of player perhaps?).

Level 33: Can play metal instruments such as wind chimes? And so on. Now, losing voice/ability is a natural consequence and could be regained by visiting, say, an NPC that is skilled in musical arts.

INSTRUMENTS

There are several instruments that could be smithed/fletched/assembled or whatnot. Here's a smallish list:

- flute, wooden

- flute, metal

- Lyre (we already have this)

- Harp

- Fender Strat*caster. Ha, just kidding.

- Drums, simple wooden (built from carving wooden drums and having to skin snakes or something and tan the hides for the covering?)

- Bagpipes?

- Conch

- Horn, crafted from bronze perhaps

- Cello?

Now, all musical instruments ought to be two-handed. It's kind of hard to flick an Abyssal Whip at someone/something while trying to perform a war song...

Now, it bears mentioning that Jagex might want to control the songs we're
actually able to play in-game and not allow us to compose our own ditties. This is probably more feasable because if everyone tried to write their own music it would more than likely sound like an assault on the ears and some of us who can't carry a tune (much less compose one) might PK all of Varrock by accident.

So here it is. I am looking for suggestions for the following:

- Musical Instruments (an elaboration on specific types; how to build them, what materials needed, are they magical/enchanted, are they quest related, etc)

- Song Effects - Specific Level Powerups

Let's get brainstorming, shall we?

And please, no whistling.

I think it's a good idea. I have an idea for a quest for it.

The Music Quest

Talk to the Olaf the Bard in Relekka. He is working on a new song, and needs your help. He needs a new instrument to play the song on, a wooden flute. To make the flute, you will need a crystal knife, and a branch from the Dramen tree from Entrana.

To get the crystal knife, you talk toEluned, in Isfadar. She will make you a crystal knife, if you bring her an elf crystal and a “potion of change.” Mini quest to make the potion, and kill an Elf Warrior to get the crystal.

You use the crystal knife on the Dramen tree branch, to make the wooden flute. Then, to learn how to play it, you make a raw shark sacrifice at the Fossegrimen altar.

End of quest!

Reward: you can now play wooden flutes, and 5k exp for fletching.

Will Someone Buy Runescape?

Ever since the Internet started, companies have been trying to find ways to make money on it. Lately companies have been advertising in popular virtual worlds, like Second Life. Companies recently bought popular sites like MySpace, Reddit, and Flickr.

With Runescape being so popular these days, and now having 1 million paid members, I wonder if some company will decide to buy Jagex? With the kind of big money being used to buy other sites, someone could make an offer that Jagex could not refuse.

I talked to Shadowdancer over the weekend. He is back playing Runescape again. It's hard to quit this game; he's the third person I know that quit, and then started playing again.

Runescape has a lot going for it, that is why is it hard to quit. Jagex is always adding something new to the game, and there is so much to do in the game. With most games, you can win them eventually, and then get tired of them. But, since Runescape keeps getting more added to it, there is no end. You can not win the game. Maybe quitting the game is the only way to win it?

Sigh...my wrists are sore, again. :(

Yay! I got Greater Demons to slay. I can use magic against them. A good monster to slay while my wrists hurt. The less clicking, the better. Runescape is a great game, but it has too much use of the mouse. It would be nice if there were ways to use the keyboard instead of the mouse.

Grr... my wrists are sore again. Too much clicking in this game. So, I am going to limit the amount of time I play this game. I'm working on Slayer, and now I see why people don't pick up monster drops--too much clicking.

I got sore wrists at work again today, but not as bad (so far) as last month. So, I'm wearing my wrist brace, and trying not to use the mouse too much. To limit my clicking, tonight I'll switch back to fishing and farming lobsters in Catherby. Not much clicking if you only fish one kind of fish; just fish, cook, and bank. Also, I can cook all of the Sharks I bought, and finish fletching the logs I have in the bank.

Now I'm fishing in Shilo Village. I got 4k feathers to use up. Then I'll head back to Catherby to cook them, while farming there.

Treasure Trails and the Wilderness do not mix

I'm tired of treasure trails that take you into the Wilderness. I just got one, got pked, and lost my map, chart, sextant, and the clue too. So, forget it! This game is for fun, so I'll just drop the clues that go to the Wilderness. Grrr...

I had given up on Construction a while ago. It required too much clicking and cost two much. And I finally gave up on it completely, by getting rid of all of the planks and nails in my bank. Yay, more bank space!

I'm still fighting elves, and working on defence. But, since I got two clue scrolls in two days, maybe I'm actually mining clue scrolls? :) Which is fine, since I like treasure trails.

Level 88 attack :)

I leveled up attack yesterday. :)

So, now I am fighting elves and working on defence. (I'm still freeing up bank space, by fighting monsters near a bank so I can use up all of my potatos.)

I got a clue scroll, so I will work on a treasure trail tonight. :)

I've 45k to go for level 88 attack. I'm still fighting werewolves in Canifis. Once I get to level 88, I will probably switch to something else. Maybe fletch all the logs I have, and then fight the Market Guards and Warrior in Rellekka, while selling the bows there.

I'm still fighting werewolves in Canifis. I'm working on attack to get it to 88. Then I'll work on defence to get it to 88. (Strength is already 88.) I want to get all of them the same. Then, I will work on getting all three up to 90, and then only work on strength from then on. Of course, since it takes so long to go up a level for my combat skills now, I may change my mind. :)

Freeing up bank space

My bank is full again. It always is. Today I am fighting werewolves in Canifis. It's close to the bank, and I can use up my extra food, which in this case potatoes and corn. I cooked 1k of them, and also 1k of Tuna to make Tuna and Corn Potatoes. But, I find that making them was more trouble than it was worth. So I will go back to fishing for my food. I am using up the potatoes and corn by fighting the werewolves. They are close to a bank, and there are lots of them, which makes them something good to fight in this case.
